One of my good friends a couple weeks ago told they still had to use dial-up at their house. I was a little confused and asked why don’t you just get high-speed internet. Truth is high-speed internet is only available in urban areas where there is a higher density of people. Some regional companies offer internet through satellite to rural areas, but only at speeds close to dial-up and at an usually expensive price.
Now your asking me why is this news worth. Well, two government agencies have started to something about this. The National Telecommunications Information Administration(NTIA) and Rural Untility Serivices have recieved, in total, 7.2 Billion to bring broadband internet to rural areas. Although the money should be able to help many people afford internet at higher speed don’t expect internet to be avalivble in every area across the U.S.
For those of you who say the why is the U.S. wasting so much money on a project like this. If your reading this it’s safe to say that the 7.2 billion may not affect you very much, but to the many entrepreneurs and business alike who just happen to be in a rural area will be to do business through technology you’ve taken advantage of for a long time now.
