Bing was released a little over a week now and it still doesn’t seem to be getting the usage it once hoped for. A few friends say they like the new search engine, but they still use google more than bing. While bing has tried to convert more people to it’s search, google still holds a firm grasp on the search market. Google’s head guy had a meeting the day after bing’s release and they say there are no worries that bing is cause for much worry.
Bing has launched a huge ad campaign, spending around 100 million to get people binging instead of googleling. Some of their commercials are a little troubling making it seem the world is in chaos just because of inadequate search engines. I would say this is a a little to far of an exaggeration even for a “funny” commercial. Check it out and tell me what you think about the search dilemma.
It looks like WolframAlpha Web 3.0 isn’t doing so well either.The computational engine that “makes all systematic knowledge computable by anyone” is still trailing behind Google. Although the site works really well, it is not something one would use on a day to day basis. Also the search terms used to get the specific information wanted is a little confusing and would be hard to learn if not so familiar with computer syntax.
