We bring you the latest Tech News and tell you the important information so it doesn't take hours to know what's the newest thing out there. From computers to cellphones we cover it all.
A new city in Florida is planning on drawing it’s power from a solar farm costing 300 million dollars. The farm will produce 75 megawatts. The new city will have around 49,000 residents. Do to the economic recession, building the city will take some time.
One of my good friends a couple weeks ago told they still had to use dial-up at their house. I was a little confused and asked why don’t you just get high-speed internet. Truth is high-speed internet is only available in urban areas where there is a higher density of people. Some regional companies offer internet through satellite to rural areas, but only at speeds close to dial-up and at an usually expensive price.
Now your asking me why is this news worth. Well, two government agencies have started to something about this. The National Telecommunications Information Administration(NTIA) and Rural Untility Serivices have recieved, in total, 7.2 Billion to bring broadband internet to rural areas. Although the money should be able to help many people afford internet at higher speed don’t expect internet to be avalivble in every area across the U.S.
For those of you who say the why is the U.S. wasting so much money on a project like this. If your reading this it’s safe to say that the 7.2 billion may not affect you very much, but to the many entrepreneurs and business alike who just happen to be in a rural area will be to do business through technology you’ve taken advantage of for a long time now.
Microsoft has finally released their price of Windows 7. Although one of Dell’s top guys said that Windows 7 would be more expensive than it’s previous os releases, Windows 7 can now be for as low as $49 for a limited time only. I don’t think anyone saw this coming. This low price comes on the heals of Apple releasing Snow Leopard, it’s new os upgrade, and is only trying to compete. This shows how scared Microsoft is of Apple. While Snow Leopard was only a upgrade to it’s current os Leopard, Microsoft has cut they’re price by more than half of it’s os, which is not an upgrade. Microsoft didn’t need to do this by far. While i’m not complaining myself. I will be pre-ordering my copy of windows 7.
Microsoft did make some gain. Japan has sold out on all pre-order copies of Windows 7. I bet Microsoft CEO is happy about that.
Now I know you were probably expecting a post about the n97, Samsung’s new phone, or even Intel’s new processor chip. I will have posts on those topics very soon, but i came across something a little more advanced than your average household gadget. Maybe a year or two ago there was a show about future technology and how it will change the world. Some of the things seemed that many years would go by before seeing any evidence of something happening. One of the inventions or future inventions was a floating city. Now I know your thinking that’s pretty insane. There are already floating building in the Netherlands now. Soon they will start to build floating apartments in 2010. Here is a short video with some of the details.
Today is a rest day, but I figured I would post something at least. The first video is a competition between Mac and PC. The second video is a man, in some kind of machine that simulates the movements of the vehicle he is controlling in a video game. Enjoy!
While Windows is getting a later start this year by realesing it’s new operating system on October 22, Apple’s new Snow Leopard comes out this September. With Apple’s low price for it’s operating system and drastic price cut of it’s Macbook Pro line, Windows is feeling the pressure to make Windows 7 into a product that consumer will be able to connect with. Vista was one of the most hated operating systems from the Windows line and many people downgraded to or stayed with Windows XP, losing a lot of money for Windows. Windows 7 has a lot of positive reviews so far from the beta. It also supports touch screen computers, the direction personal computers are going, which the new operating system Snow Leopard does not support. Apple is also cutting support to PowerPC processing completely in the new upgrade. This maybe to soon of a cut, since they only started introducing the Intel based processing into they’re computers 2 years ago.Windows 7, although not advised, could be used on a computer from 2001. What it may come down to is the price while a lot of people are discouraged to upgrade to a new OS because of the outragous price Snow Leopard, as discussed earlier, is only $29 to upgrade, while Window 7 is reported to be higher than it’s predecessor Vista. How much higher was not said. We will see what happens although i don’t see a big change or shift of windows users switching to mac or visa-versa.
As you might have heard, from commercials on all local channels if your in the U.S., the U.S. is national switching from analog Tv to digital Tv. The change is happening later on today at 12am. Although there have been coupons offered by the government to offer cheaper digital converter boxes, there have been reports that a lot of people have not switched to a newer TV or gotten a converter box. The coupons will still be offered until July. I encourage all of you to switch to digital TV, and for those of you who have digital TV rescan for channels after 12am June 12th.

OnLive brings a new way to play video games. It takes the newest and hottest console games and puts them on your PC, mac, or TV for on-demand play. This seems a little weird considering that you never actually download the games to your computer or TV(as if TVs could do that). OnLive streams the games to your computer or to a micro console, provided by OnLive, to be displayed on your TV. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will be watching this product very closely since OnLive cuts out the console completely by offering games straight to the consumer regardless of what console they have. Although the reliability of the internet connection from the OnLive servers to the consumer’s house is an admitted issue, the idea is a good one and has promise to catch on in the near future. OnLive hopes to debut their system in winter of this year. Here is a commercial from OnLive, tell me your thoughts in the comments box.
The french company, Archos, is coming out with a new handheld tablet PC called Archos 9. The Archos 9 brings a new look to the tablet PC world and well honestly it’s good to see more touch screen computers on the market. Although the Archos 9 is a tablet PC it’s a little smaller and compact than most and truly should only be used for browsing the internet and maybe watching a movie or two. With the new Intel Atom processor of only 1.2GHz of computing power, this mini-PC seems more like an over-sized phone. While it is very impressive that Windows 7 is installed, allowing for a better touch screen interface and interaction, there is a small chance that this will be a device that people will be able to by in place of a new desktop or even laptop computer. With all that said look out for new innovative products from Archos, this will not be the last time hearing about them.

The showdown has officially begun. Both phone have grabbed the attention of every man, woman, and child who has a cellphone. The question now is will the iPhone reign supreme or will the Palm Pre take the cake.
For awhile before the release of the Palm Pre sprint marketed heavily for the new phone. From television ads to web ads that seemed to be everywhere. So how good did the Palm Pre actually do. Sprint released a statement saying that the Palm Pre has the highest weekend sells of any cellphone on our network to date. So in general Sprint is saying the Palm Pre is the best. While the iPhone has not yet been released, it has had attention drawn will leaked images of “what the phone might look like”, of course of which was actual pictures of the phone itself.
Both phones have a nice look with pretty intuitive interfaces, both have minor complaints nothing to big to stop people from buying either phone, so what’s the biggest differences between the two.
The two biggest difference are the carriers and company support. The iPhone has their infamous app store totaling around 50,000 as of today. The app store alone drives people to buy the iPhone and with the inclusion of the new graphics capabilities, allowing better interactive games, Palm will have a hard time keeping up. The Palm on the other hand has a better carrier. Now to all the AT&T Cingular fans out there I’m only saying this, because AT&T is havng to catch up technology wise to bring full the capabilities of iPhone 3Gs to it’s users. iPhone users will have to wait for better tethering and data services Sprint on the other hand is already offering 4G speed to it’s costumers which will offer faster download speeds and maybe soon offer live video feed, something Europeans already have and love. Last but not least the price to upgrade to the new iPhone is extremely high. The lowest price to upgrade is a wopping $399.
We will soon find out which phone will win over the other later this month. Subscribe to find the latest info or follow use on twitter at Technology on the Rise to know when the next blog post will be and as always please leave your thoughts in the comments box.
Bing was released a little over a week now and it still doesn’t seem to be getting the usage it once hoped for. A few friends say they like the new search engine, but they still use google more than bing. While bing has tried to convert more people to it’s search, google still holds a firm grasp on the search market. Google’s head guy had a meeting the day after bing’s release and they say there are no worries that bing is cause for much worry.
Bing has launched a huge ad campaign, spending around 100 million to get people binging instead of googleling. Some of their commercials are a little troubling making it seem the world is in chaos just because of inadequate search engines. I would say this is a a little to far of an exaggeration even for a “funny” commercial. Check it out and tell me what you think about the search dilemma.
It looks like WolframAlpha Web 3.0 isn’t doing so well either. The computational engine that “makes all systematic knowledge computable by anyone” is still trailing behind Google. Although the site works really well, it is not something one would use on a day to day basis. Also the search terms used to get the specific information wanted is a little confusing and would be hard to learn if not so familiar with computer syntax.

Apple brought out there new Macbook Pro line. Aesthetically there is no change, but you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. The processor speed was increased to 2.26GHz, and battery now lasts longer. There are better changes the more expensive the model ie. the bigger the screen, but these model can compete a little bit better with the specs of PC laptops. Before the change the 13-inch models were nice, but hardware wise it would be better to by a PC if you could settle for a Windows or linux operating system. For all you who just bought a mac a few days earlier, take them back and get a new one in September this year so you don’t only get the the and improved Macbook Pros you will also get Snow leopard installed with no extra charge.
Smaller news complaints about the iPhone 3Gs. The price is to expensive to upgrade. As you know with any other phone or any other carrier, if one wants to change phones in the middle of a contract that person has to pay for the phone completely on there own. Well this is the same problem with upgrading from the iPhone 3G to an iPhone 3Gs. To upgrade to a 16Gb version it will cost you 399 and 499 to upgrade to a 32Gb version.
